Why I am Unraveling

This is not a blog about frugality. I hope to aspire to want to try to be frugal someday. That’s how far removed from frugality I am.

I have an unhealthy desire to shop, and a healthy desire to stop. As the fabulous Bette Davis once said, “Fasten your seat belts, it’s going to be a bumpy night!”

On June 23, 2012, I began to unravel. That was the day I decided to stop shopping in an effort to drastically reduce frivolous spending. I never spend beyond my means or incur debt, but my shopping addiction interferes with daily life. I waste time researching, hunting for the “perfect” thing, and spending money on countless who-knows-whats that either get returned, donated, or just gather dust.

I’m not doing this alone.

I hope that this blog will keep me on course, as will my incredibly patient and supportive husband. My two young boys, however, are unknowingly an excuse to shop. First, because I think they need stuff, and second, because I need to feel like I’m in charge sometimes. I’ll have to teach them an unshopping mantra or something that they can repeat endlessly, as they are wont to do.

As for “extra” help, as a Catholic, I find it obvious that I should call upon the aide of St. Michael in this endeavor. Defend us in battle!

    Hello!
Hope you’ve had a great summer!
Just wanted to ask how you are doing?
Haven’t seen an update for a while, so I am guessing things are going in the right direction?

Take care & remember: there are lots of us out here cheering you on!

Hi! Thanks for checking in! The summer has been busy, and I’ve had good parts (sticking to my stringent list) and bad (shopping to escape, even without purchasing anything). I hope to get back to writing next week once my kids are in school!
