A few of the things I’m doing to avoid the shopping bug:
- Unsubscribe from all sale and daily deal e-mails and blogs
- Recycle catalogs before bringing them into the house, and call to cancel snail-mail
- Keep all non-grocery coupons at home until we agree that I can use them on specific purchases
- Start each week with $50 spending cash for non-necessities (can carry over or deposit to savings)
- Avoid all malls, outlets, Target, TJ Maxx, and Nordstrom Rack
- Keep an ongoing wishlist for clothing and accessories to avoid impulse buys
- Refresh wardrobes once in the fall and once in the spring, rather than every day all season long
- Carry snacks for me and the boys when we go out, even if I think we’ll be back in time for lunch/dinner
- Drink a full glass of water before breakfast…oh wait, that’s one of my new get-healthy rules
